Summer is here and my family and I just took a long roadtrip up to Acadia National Park and I packed #allthesnacks. Whether you're
taking a long summer road trip or just going to visit family, finding healthy
snacks for long car rides can be challenging. If you're planning on spending an
extended period in the car with family, friends, and kids, you'll want to plan
with healthy options that will boost the energy needed to explore. Here are
some great ideas and links to specific products I buy for healthy snacks to pack (no cooler required) when traveling this
summer:
Nuts, Seeds, & Olives
Packing
various nuts and seeds is a great way to stay full throughout your travels.
Almonds, walnuts, and peanuts provide healthy fats, protein, and other
essential nutrients. Seeds like chia, sunflower, and pumpkin seeds are also
excellent sources of protein and fiber. Nuts and seeds are easy to pack in
small bags or containers, so they're perfect on the go. I love olives and nut butter packets too.
Trail mix, Roasted Chickpeas & Salmon:
Trail mix is
an excellent snack for road trips because it's healthy, easy to pack and eat,
and will keep you full on long drives. If you
want to make your own, use nuts such as almonds, walnuts, or cashews; dried
fruit like raisins or cranberries (look for no added sugar dried fruit); pretzels; cacao nibs or coconut chips, and sunflower seeds. Roasted chickpeas are crunchy & high in fiber. Wild caught salmon is delicious, high in protein and a great source for Omega-3's.
Hard-boiled
eggs, popcorn & beef sticks
Hard-boiled
eggs are a great source of protein, and they're easy to pack and eat. Plus,
they will help keep you full and energized on the road. Beef sticks come in different sizes and are easy to throw in your bag.
Popcorn with coconut oil:

Fruits &
Vegetables
Fresh fruits like apples, avocados, oranges, berries, or grapes are easily transported in a bag or container. Vegetables like carrots, cucumbers or celery sticks can also travel well if sliced into smaller pieces before being packed. You could grab some pre-packaged containers of hummus or guacamole to enjoy with your raw veggies.
Protein bars
They're
also a good option if you're looking for something quick and easy to eat on the
go.

Be sure to pack plenty of water to stay hydrated during your travels. We love to use electrolyte powders to add in our water bottles (just look for ones with no artificial sweeteners, sugars, or dyes). Organic coconut water is a great option too.
